New items on routine maintenance list

I've been looking all over the Ultimateyota and Yotatech forums for advice on lifts, tire sizes, engine tune-up recommendations, and ideas for everything else. I'm fairly new to 4WD Toyota's as this is my 1st! I've previously owned a 1984 single cab 2WD 22R pick up, and a 1993 2WD 22RE pick up. Both were flippin' sweet, and taught me a lot about the do's and don'ts of modifications and routine maintenance. Now I own my 2000 4Runner and I'm rolling over the same knowledge I learned from previous trucks and applying it to my 4Runner.



I bought my 4Runner with 93K miles and now have almost 140K. During that time I've had the timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, thermostat, seals, etc replaced and had the fuel system cleaned as well. Immediately following that maintenance the truck ran great. Since then I've experienced hesitation, stalling, poor mileage, etc. I thought about replacing the injectors, or spending another $100 to get the fuel system cleaned again. Here's where the forums prove to be priceless.



I went to my local auto parts store (in this case Kragen's) and purchased a can of throttle body cleaner, mass air flow sensor cleaner, and 4 bottles of Sea Foam system cleaner. I saw this forum thread...http://www.yotatech.com/f123/seafoam-injector-intake-cleaner-good-stuff-64836/ and followed the same council as Andy by pouring Sea Foam through the PCV valve and flushing out the carbon deposits that way. I did the entire fuel system, including replacing my fuel filter and spark plugs after all the chemicals where applied. WHOA! I mean seriously WHOA! what a difference. I spent around $40 on chemicals, $80 on parts, and two hours of labor only to have my 4Runner running great once more. I'll never take my truck to the "stealership" again to only get an additive put into the fuel tank and have the throttle body cleaned. I'll put this procedure on the 10-15K maintenance list minus the plugs and fuel filter.



Next is to build and install custom rock sliders, and wire my new 8" 150 watt lights properly without risk of fire. I've already got the lights mounted, just need to run the wire and install the factory switch. My friend Jack (JackFab) and I will built the sliders next weekend when we're down in S.D. for the baby shower. Going to buy a new surfboard too. I'm stoked!

4runner Happenings





I'm new to blogs and needed to set one up so I could have a URL for my photos and then place the link onto forums that I belong to. So, that's why I'm here now.




I have a 2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD V6 Millenium Silver with a few extra goodies I added on.



Let's start with the Front...




  • Toyota Tundra TRD 4WD Front Coil: 48131-AF090 (Passenger) Blue + Yellow



  • Toyota Tundra TRD 4WD Front Coil: 48131-AF100 (Driver) Yellow + Yellow



  • Old Man Emu N91s shocks.

I've also included Sonoran Steel diff. drop to accomodate the CV angles. I've also changed the CV axles (Napa $76 NEW), Brake rotor & pads (Napa $100 total NEW).


Now for the Rear...


  • Downey 2" lift coils #48296-2 that really only added 1.5" (That was dissapointing). However the ride improvment was 110%. I did add the e-brake bracket too.



  • Old Man Emu N86 shocks.



  • Airlift Coil spring leveling kit #60743. This was a clutch addition to the lift. It was recommended by Andy(Bamachem) from the UltimateYota forum. Ride quality is 10 fold better and I achieved the heigth I wanted for towing and looks.



  • Homemade 1" coils spacers. I ordered a 12"X12" sheet of UHMW #85705K52 $27.40 +S/H, and outlined the coils inside diameter and outside diameter, and cut two rings about 6-7" diameter and 1"wide with a jigsaw. It was a definite pain in the rear, but saved my $. I installed them above the rear coils and they are AWESOME!

Now for the miscellaneous stuff...



  • K&N Air Filter

  • NGK Iridium Spark Plugs

  • Valvoline Max Synthetic gear oil (Front diff, Transfer case, Rear diff.)

  • Perma-Cool Oil filter relocation kit (Holy crap, SO much easier than before)

  • Fumoto Oil drain plug valve (Again...Holy crap, SO much easier than before)

  • Hood and sunroof wind deflectors (JC Whitney)

  • 90 watt Headlight bulbs (eBay)

  • 8" off road lights 150w bulbs (friend) and Explorer Pro Comp Wire Harness (4wheel Parts)

  • Roof Cargo Basket (yet to be installed)

  • 4Runner Limited 5-spoke 16" Alloy wheels (upgraded from SR5 6-spoke)

  • 255/85R16 Tires (waiting for current 265/70R16 tires to wear out than I will install the 5-spoke wheels and 255/85 tires)

  • Oil changes every 5K

  • Washed every now and again

  • Preventative maintenance all the time.

That covers about everything off the top of my head. I'm sure I left out some stuff.
